WELCOME TO TRIBECA

Today, with the revitalization project in the neighborhood, many Manhattan newcomers have been flocking to this trendy neighborhood now known for its upscale restaurants and stunning views of the Hudson River, Freedom Tower, and the Statue of Liberty.

HISTORY AND CULTURE

Once a neighborhood of industry, Tribeca used to be filled with manufacturing warehouses and open-air markets. The Washington Market was the largest of its kind in the late 1800s before Tribeca was gentrified and brought back to life by artists who started squatting in the open, airy lofts. By the 1970s, neighboring SoHo’s prices were on the rise, and many artists began moving West to find similar lofts without the steep prices. Like SoHo, the area between Broadway and the Hudson River on the East and West, and Canal and Vesey on the North and South, was renamed to rebrand the neighborhood and reflect the directional boundaries.

Today, with the revitalization project in the neighborhood, many Manhattan newcomers have been flocking to this trendy neighborhood now known for its upscale restaurants and stunning views of the Hudson River, Freedom Tower, and the Statue of Liberty.

PEOPLE & LIFESTYLE

  • 45 percent of people who live in Tribeca are married with kids, while 39 percent are married without kids. Only 8.4 percent of people are single parents, thus the smallest percentage of people in Tribeca are single. Most of the residents earn between $250,000 and $450,000 per year. Just over 1,000 of Tribeca’s residents earn more than $500,000 annually. Most residents have an advanced degree, like a PhD or Master’s. Nearly all the residents have at least a Bachelor’s. Most residents are between the ages of 30 and 39. Residents age 40 to 49 make up the second-largest demographic, while children under 9 fall third. While crime in Manhattan is higher than the nation’s average, Tribeca sees less crime than the rest of the island.

RESTAURANTS

With some of the hottest celebrities living in the neighborhood, it’s no surprise that some of the trendiest restaurants are also located in the 10013 zip code. It’s also no surprise that many of these restaurants are owned by celebrities themselves. Robert De Niro’s Tribeca Grill offers diners upscale steaks in an artsy setting.
